When is the best time for newborn photos?

Dear Moms & Dads,

Congratulations on the arrival of your little bundle of joy! As a new mom, you're probably overwhelmed with love, joy, and, of course, sleepless nights. It's during these early days that you'll want to cherish every tiny moment, and one way to do that is by taking newborn photos. But when is the best time to capture those precious moments? In this blog post, I'm here to help you navigate this exciting journey of photographing your newborn.

The First Two Weeks: The Sweet Spot

While there's no one-size-fits-all answer, most photographers agree that the first two weeks after your baby's birth is the sweet spot for newborn photos. During this time, your baby is usually at their sleepiest and most cooperative. They're still very flexible, making it easier to pose them in those adorable, curled-up positions that we all love to see in newborn photos.

Here are a few reasons why the first two weeks are the ideal window for newborn photography:

1. Sleepiness: Newborns tend to sleep a lot during their first two weeks. This makes it easier to capture those cute, peaceful moments without too much fuss.

2. Flexibility: Babies are generally more flexible in the early days, making it simpler to position them for those precious shots.

3. Baby Acne and Rashes: Baby acne or rashes, which sometimes appear around weeks 2-4, can be a concern if you wait too long to schedule your photo session. However, if something of this sort is keeping you from scheduling newborn photos, please reach out to me to chat! Photoshopping a newborn's skin such as cradle cap, for example, is very common in newborn photography. Something like this should never hold you back from capturing your little one's precious first moments.

4. Memory Preservation: Those early days pass by in the blink of an eye, and capturing these moments will help you preserve those fleeting memories.

Plan Ahead and Book Your Session

To make the most of this optimal window, it's a good idea to plan ahead and book your newborn photo session before your baby arrives. It is best to book months in advance to ensure a spot on my calendar. Of course, the baby's arrival will be flexible, and so am I. Once your little one has arrived, we can change the exact date and time of the session if needed.

Be Patient and Flexible

While the first two weeks are optimal, remember that your baby is in charge of the schedule. They may have their own agenda and moods. Be patient and flexible during your photo session. It's perfectly normal for sessions to take a bit longer than expected, and there may be diaper changes, feedings, and soothing breaks.

Don't Miss Out on This Beautiful Experience

Capturing the early days of your baby's life is an incredible experience, and with the right planning, you can create timeless memories that you'll cherish forever. So, go ahead, book that newborn photo session and let the magic unfold in front of the camera. Your little one won't stay tiny for long, and these photos will be a treasure for years to come.

Enjoy every moment of motherhood, and may your baby's journey be filled with love and joy.

With love,

Gabrielle
